safety instrumented system
A system that protects a manufacturing or operating process. Conforming to the IEC 61511 or 61508 standards, such a system is designed to shut itself down or change to a reduced operational state in the event of failure or hazardous situation. Also called "ESD system," "emergency shutdown," "safety shutdown" and "emergency trip system." See safety.

This new version of Centum VP offers enhanced information visibility, a more intuitive operator interface, improved consolidated alarm management, a new Foundation fieldbus engineering function, and linkage with the ProSafe-RS Safety Instrumented System (SIS).
This order is for a Yokogawa Centum series integrated roduction control system that will control all plant facilities; a ProSafe-RS Safety Instrumented System for the boilers' burner anagement system; and engineering, installation, and commissioning services.
The OTS is composed of the OmegaLand simulation engine and a safety and automation system (SAS) made up of the CENTUM VP Integrated Production Control System and the ProSafe-RS Safety Instrumented System.
