salt pan [′sȯlt ‚pan]
(chemistry)
A pool used for obtaining salt by the natural evaporation of sea water.
(geology)
An undrained, usually small and shallow, natural depression or hollow in which water accumulates and evaporates, leaving a salt deposit.
A shallow lake of brackish water occupying such a depression.

Fish have come from Hauxley, the Saltpans, Bondicarr, Cresswell, Whitley Bay and Tynemouth beaches and there have also been a lot of eels from the last two venues.
The afternoon saw us make our way south for a viewing of Ses Salines Natural Park and the saltpans.
Climb to the top of the walls and Tavira is spread out below you, a rich tapestry of tiled rooftops stretching away to the mosiac of saltpans before reaching the blue Atlantic ocean.
