The bootstrap seeks to approximate the sampling distribution of [theta] using f and Monte Carlo simulation (Beran, 1982; Efron, 1982; Effon & Tishirani, 1993; Efron & Tibshirani, 1993; Efron & Tishirani, 1986). The distribution of these estimates mimics the underlying sampling distribution for the original estimate assuming that the parent population looks like the sample. A sampling distribution is a probability distribution that describes the relative frequencies of occurrence for all possible results of measurement when the conditions of measurement are hypothesized to be fixed at the intended levels [4]. |
