The company attributed its lackluster projections to a seasonal recovery that didn't materialize.
The modest seasonal recovery of drilling activity in Canada, sequential quarter revenue growth in Latin America and the solid performance of M-I SWACO were not sufficient to mitigate the revenue and margin deterioration experienced during the third quarter of 2009.
Sequential growth was due to a full quarter of results from the pressure pumping acquisition completed in the second quarter of 2008, the seasonal recovery in Canada and improved utilization and pricing in several service lines.
