secure Web server

    0.01 sec.

secure Web server

(1) A server on the Web that supports one or more of the major security protocols such as SSL, SHTTP and PCT. This means that order form data from your browser is encrypted before being sent (uploaded) to the Web site, making it extremely difficult for a third party to decipher credit card numbers and other sensitive data that it might fraudulently capture. See security protocol and cryptography.

(2) An intranet Web server that is fortified against attack from the public Internet. All public Web servers present themselves to the outside world and are more vulnerable than Web servers for internal intranets. See firewall.
