| The researchers directed the tables' movements to simulate the Northridge quake, as described by seismometer data gathered about 6 kilometers from the quake's epicenter. For example, seismometers positioned in the borehole will record the vibrations during an earthquake. At ground zero for earthquake study, dozens of sensors - seismometers, strainmeters, creepmeters - allowed researchers to monitor the moments before, during and after the temblor - information that might help unlock the mystery of predicting quakes. |
