Williams was asked if he suspected journalists behind the possibility at the Commons Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee.
The Welsh Affairs Select Committee inquiry is focusing on the contribution of ports to the Welsh economy and examining how trade and tourism can be boosted in the future.
There has been criticism the select committees will be costly and their representation mirrors the share of seats in the Commons rather than the region the select committee covers.
