Bias introduced into an experiment by having the subjects decide themselves whether or not they will receive treatment.

Since participation in the survey was voluntary and the questionnaire was anonymous, there was no means of determining the extent of any self-selection bias related to students' participation.
The authors also tout their method as addressing the problem of self-selection.
