memory card

(1) A module in a laptop computer that contains volatile RAM chips and is user replaceable with a modicum of mechanical skill. The term "memory card" mostly refers to the non-volatile flash memory in definition #2 below. For more on RAM modules, see memory module.

(2) A removable module that contains non-volatile memory chips. The term typically refers to flash memory cards used for storage in digital cameras and other portable devices.
