Spermatogenesis, which takes place in the seminiferous tubules of the testes, is the orderly process during which spermatogonia evolve into mature spermatozoa. Blocking testosterone prevents only the initial step of sperm development, the release of precursor cells in the hundreds of seminiferous tubules of the testes. At 180 mg/kg/day, (which produces exposure levels 22 times higher than those in humans taking 80 mg/day based on surface area, mg/m2), seminiferous tubule degeneration (necrosis and loss of spermatogenic epithelium) was observed. |
