To add to the problem, the senior pilot in that aircraft was known to have difficulties dealing with emergencies (he often fixated on specific issues and didn't talk to his crew) and had not flown a night mission in several months.
``There is no system that can stop a brush fire set on the wrong day in the wrong conditions,'' said Los Angeles County Fire Department senior pilot Lee Benson.
The senior pilot, Bob Frisbie, had more than 10,000 hours in the air and had undergone simulator training in December, Foulkrod said.
