Serotyping was performed by the collecting laboratories, except for isolates from Taiwan, which were serotyped by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Most of the Salmonella isolates were serotyped according to the Kaufmann-White Scheme (Popoff and LeMinor, 1997) at the Laboratory of Enteric Pathogens, Adolfo Lutz Institute, São Paulo, São Paulo State, Brazil, with a set of somatic and flagellar monovalent antisera against cell wall and flagellar antigens.
