Santa Cruz de Asia is an impoverished, sprawling shanty town in the desert 100km south of Lima. I didn't think they were quite that bad - San Esperito bounces with some color and life, with backgrounds ranging from shanty towns to small metro areas. But there are many local and national governments that have tried new approaches, working with slum and shanty town residents to legalize tenure and support community-managed improvements, for instance, the work of the Community Organizations Development Institute in Thailand. |
