metal in the form of a sheet, the thickness being intermediate between that of plate and that of foil sheet metal [′shēt ‚med·əl] (metallurgy) Thin sections of metal formed by rolling hot metal and usually less than 0.25 inch (6.35 millimeters) thick; when thicker than 0.25 inch, called plate. sheet metal A flat, rolled metal product, rectangular in cross section and form, of thickness between 0.006 and 0.249 in.
