siliceous rock |
Also found in: Wikipedia | 0.03 sec. |
siliceous rockAny of a group of sedimentary rocks that consist largely or almost entirely of silicon dioxide (SiO2), either as quartz or as chert, the most common siliceous rock. It occurs in beds and in nodules. Bedded cherts may be an original organic or inorganic precipitate. Nodular cherts appear to be produced by the alteration of preexisting sedimentary rock. In this process silica distributed throughout the rock dissolves and reprecipitates to form nodules. How to thank TFD for its existence? Much of my forest's soil is thin, poorly drained, and derived from nutrient-deficient siliceous rock. Extensive pyrite-sericite schist and siliceous rocks provide a common link to the showings suggesting the presence of a very large, extensive mineralized system. Highest assay results, to date, are 17 grams per tonne gold in a vuggy quartz breccia and 156 grams per tonne in a vuggy siliceous rock east and south of the Hulu Sita prospect, respectively. |
