Skids

(in Russian, rostry), a series of beams between the deckhouse and the stanchions along the side of a ship. Planking is usually laid over the beams, and rescue and work boats and airplanes are placed on the skids. In Russian, the term rostry is also used to designate the area on sailing vessels where spare masts, topmasts, booms, and hatch gratings are stored on the top deck between the foremast and the mainmast.
