The minimum distance that radio waves can be transmitted between two points on the earth by reflection from the ionosphere, at a specified time and frequency.
(engineering)
In angle-beam ultrasonic testing, the distance between the point of entry on the workpiece and the point of first reflection.

i. The minimum distance between the transmitting station and the point at which the reflected sky wave touches the surface of the earth the first time. Within this distance, no sky-wave reception is possible. For a given frequency, the skip distance varies with the time of day and the season of the year.
ii. The distance that a bomb skips on the ground or the water after first impact.
