slow-acting relay [′slō ¦ak·tiŋ ′rē‚lā] (electromagnetism) A time-delay relay in which an interval of several seconds may exist between energizing of the coil and pulling up of the armature; the delay can be obtained electrically by placing a solid copper ring on the core of the relay.
