I've been on skis twice before, 20 years ago, for a couple of hours down a mountain in Greece, instructorless, in jeans, picking up unforeseen speed as my default snowploughing technique fell apart and I shot out into a clearing and watched the queue for the chairlift scatter as I hurtled towards it.
I had a two-hour lesson with Adrian, one of the ski school's 15 instructors and, by the end of it, had managed parallel skiing on the nursery slopes and was able to stop most of the time by snowploughing.
There are plenty of other activities on offer if you want a break from schussing and snowploughing.
