sodium borate [′sōd·ē·əm ′bȯ‚rāt] (inorganic chemistry) Na2B4O7·10H2O A water-soluble, odorless, white powder; melts between 75 and 200°C; used in glass, ceramics, starch and adhesives, detergents, agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and photography; the impure form is known as borax.
