2. Brit slang jocular a deposit of fat just above the waist

Monetary policy committee member Adam Posen said: "The financial system does not seem to have a spare tyre for the provision of capital to non-financial businesses when the banking system has popped a leak.
He said: "I am concerned because the financial system in the UK does not seem to have a spare tyre for the provision of capital to non-financial businesses when the banking system has popped a leak.
Seven of these had their cars taken off the road - two for not having their identity badges with them, four for defects to lights and one for having no spare tyre.
