spark arrester [′spärk ə‚res·tər]
(engineering)
An apparatus that prevents sparks from escaping from a chimney.
A device that reduces or eliminates electric sparks at a point where a circuit is opened and closed.

spark arrester
A device (located at the top of a chimney) to prevent sparks, embers, or other ignited material above a given size from being expelled to the atmosphere. Also called a bonnet.
