spider plantAfrican plant of genus Chlorophytum (lily family). This popular houseplant has long, narrow, grassy green-and-white-striped leaves. Periodically a flower stem emerges, and tiny white flowers (not always produced) are replaced by young plantlets, which can then be detached and rooted. How to thank TFD for its existence? | Green and white or tricolor spider plants are much more sensitive. If you do buy conventional synthetic carpeting, air it out thoroughly installing and decorate the nursery with devil's ivy, nephthytis, and spider plants, which have been shown to absorb off-gassing chemicals. Perhaps because they're so easy to grow, spider plants have seldom shared the cachet of such other houseplants as the African violet, amaryllis or asparagus fern. |
