A star whose position or other data are precisely known so that it is used as a reference to calculate positions of other celestial bodies, or of objects on earth.

This approach is much more complicated than differential photometry: the sky must be adequately clear (sometimes referred to as 'photometric'); standard stars need to be imaged (usually some distance from the target asteroid); at least one filter must be used; and extinction values, nightly zeropoints, airmass corrections and the like must all be taken into account.
Accommodation is in comfortable caravans from the standard Star range (where the family pet is welcome too) to the luxurious Gold Olympic holiday homes.
The final solution that ADC chose for its CopperTen product involves using an oblique star filler design that creates a higher degree of separation between pairs than a standard star filler.
