(acoustics)

The pressure that would exist at a point in a medium if no sound waves were present.

(fluid mechanics)

The normal component of stress, the force per unit area, exerted across a surface moving with a fluid, especially across a surface which lies in the direction of fluid flow.

The average of the normal components of stress exerted across three mutually perpendicular surfaces moving with a fluid.

static pressure

1. In an air distribution system, the pressure which the fan must supply to overcome the resistance to airflow through the system ductwork and system components.

2. The pressure which a fluid exerts on a surface at rest with respect to it.

3. At a point, the atmospheric pressure in the absence of sound waves; usually expressed in pascals.
