Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
Stepmother

a mother to her husband’s children from a previous marriage, not their natural mother. According to Soviet law, a stepmother must support her under-age stepchildren if they are under her guardianship and have no parents or if they cannot obtain sufficient support from their parents. In turn, the stepchildren must support their stepmother when she is disabled or in need of help, if she raised and supported them.
