(histology)
A layer of granular cells interposed between the stratum corneum and the stratum germinativum in the thick skin of the palms and soles.

Specifically, we found intracellular zoospore-carrying sporangia within the stratum corneum and stratum granulosum of toe and skin samples.
Slight hyperplasia of the keratinized cells of the stratum corneum and stratum granulosum was observed in some areas where chytrid developmental stages were present.
