streaming audio |
Also found in: Wikipedia, Hutchinson | 0.03 sec. |
streaming audioA one-way audio transmission over a data network. It is widely used on the Web as well as company networks to play audio clips and Internet radio. Computers in home networks stream audio (mostly music) to digital media hubs connected to home theaters. Unlike sound files that are played after the entire file has been downloaded and stored, streaming audio begins playing after only a small amount is received, and the audio data are not stored permanently in the destination computer. For Local 46, streaming audio has one advantage that even a broadcasting stalwart like 1010 WINS Radio can't match: People outside the Greater New York area, beyond the range of 1010 WINS Radio, can still keep up to date on union news by clicking on the "Listen Live" button at www. This frees up design teams and marketing agencies to focus on their core competencies while tapping into increasingly sought-after custom streaming audio and video Internet marketing solutions.
