streaming tape

A high-speed magnetic tape drive that is frequently used to make a backup copy of an entire hard disk. This term is not related to streaming audio or streaming video on the Web; however, "streaming" implies a continuous operation in both instances. See streaming audio and streaming video.

(computer science)
A type of high-speed magnetic tape that is used as a backup storage for disks, particularly hard disks in microcomputer systems.
