Strongpoint
a sector of the terrain defended by a company or platoon, saturated with means of fire and obstacles and prepared for all-round defense. The platoon strongpoint is a part of the company strongpoint. For establishing strongpoints, sectors of the terrain are chosen that provide good observation and conditions for waging effective fire against the enemy. Foxholes are dug at the strongpoint and then joined into trench sectors. Positions for field guns, tanks, antitank weapons, and personnel shelters are set up. Various kinds of obstacles are also set up, and a system of fire is organized to ensure continuous multilayered fire on the most likely axes of enemy attack. All defensive structures are carefully camouflaged. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
