The experiment co-targeted the viral p24 structural gene and CCR5, the major HIV-1 co-receptor in macrophages, cells that are known to be reservoirs of HIV infection and that are stubbornly resistant to current antiviral therapies. While most genomics efforts are focused on structural genes, CIStem is focused on Regulomics, the study of the regulatory regions that control genes, that is, the CIS sites and the Trans-acting factors that bind to them. |
