The jawbone is exposed and a mould impression taken from which the subperiosteal implant is created and placed on top of the jawbone under the gum and fusion takes place between the jawbone and the subperiosteal implant.
The procedure for placing a subperiosteal implant now involves surgery to take an impression of the jawbone, construction of the implant framework and then a second surgery to implant it.
