One of the more notable—and divisive—features of Fordham University’s plan to expand its Lincoln Center campus has been the Jesuit school’s effort to sell off part of its Upper West Side superblock to make room for two soaring apartment towers, helping to finance the expansion.
The centerpiece of the district will be a high-density residential and commercial development over a 26 acre rail yard on the superblocks between West 31st and West 33rd Streets.
Experiments that have evolved from the typological to topological as evidenced in the curvaceous screen walls of the Eugene courthouse (currently under construction) or the serpentine, striated superblocks envisioned for Queens.
