(electronics) An amplifier used with a cathode-ray tube, such as in a television receiver or cathode-ray oscilloscope, to amplify the sawtooth output voltage of the sweep oscillator, to shape the waveform for the deflection circuits of a television picture tube, or to provide balanced signals to the deflection plates.
