an assembly of switchgear for the control of power supplies in an installation or building

switchboard [′swich‚bȯrd]
(communications)
A manually operated apparatus at a telephone exchange, on which the various circuits from subscribers and other exchanges are terminated to enable operators to establish communications either between two subscribers on the same exchange, or between subscribers on different exchanges. Also known as telephone switchboard.
(electricity)
A single large panel or assembly of panels on which are mounted switches, circuit breakers, meters, fuses, and terminals essential to the operation of electric equipment. Also known as electric switchboard.
