The lining of the capsule surrounding a joint is called the synovium, and anything inside the joint that irritates the synovium will cause it to secrete fluid. Despite the name, these tumors neither originate from synovium nor express synovial differentiation. Inflammation of the outer layer of the tendon (paratenon) alone whether or not the paratenon is lined by synovium. |
