An error that occurs when a program cannot understand the command that has been entered. See parse.

(computer science)
An error in the format of a statement in a computer program that violates the rules of the programming language employed. Also known as syntactic error.

The problem with // is that if the URL or web address has only one slash it shows a syntax error and the website fails to open.
