tack weld
1. A weld used for holding metal parts in position temporarily.
2. One of a series of welds applied where a continuous weld is unnecessary.

Now line up the tapped hole in the lower cap with the hole in the leg of the 6" beam with a welding rod, and tack weld it to the beam.
All you need to do is bolt and tack weld the pieces together.
For these specimens, a tack weld (for alignment) was applied and then wrapped with the composite material.
