Speaking of medium-size street trees, the city of Jerusalem recently has planted a large number of Chinese tallow trees (Sapium sebiferum). Future vegetable oil and alcohol fuels, used alone or in blends, may be produced from soybeans, sunflowers, peanuts, cotton seed, rape seed, safflower, palm oil, guayule, jojoba, buffalo gourds, Chinese tallow trees, corn, small grains, grain sorghum, sweet sorghum, potatoes and many other common and not-so-common crops and plants. The 15 Chinese tallow trees planted Sunday were purchased and planted through an extensive communitywide effort, Summers said. |
