The brain of teleost fish is characterized by an important aromatase activity that is due to the expression of a brain-specific aromatase gene, encoding cytochrome P450 aromatase B (Aro-B) (Tchoudakova et al. Recent studies show that similar pesticides alter aggressive and reproductive behaviors in teleost fish (Carlson et al. 2001), but only two studies have investigated the impact of perchlorate on teleost fish that form key components of freshwater ecosystems. |
