(electronics)
A component in a television receiver that selects the desired channel and converts the frequencies received to lower frequencies within the passband of the intermediate-frequency amplifier; for very-high-frequency reception there are 12 discrete positions (channels 2-13); for ultra-high-frequency reception continuous tuning is usually employed.
