They analysed the brain activity of 11 students, and found that idiomatic sentences activated the right middle temporal gyrus (after 350ms) and the right medial frontal gyrus (at 270-300 and 500-780ms).
Scientists found that while kids use their prefrontal cortexes to do math, adults use a part of their brains called the superior temporal gyrus.
Scientists have shown that the left superior temporal gyrus may help connect the sounds of speech to written letters.
