thallium-beam clock [′thal·ē·əm ¦bēm ′kläk] (horology) A device similar to a cesium-beam clock, but using a beam of thallium atoms instead of cesium; advantages over cesium are reduced sensitivity to magnetic fields and a higher frequency; the beam, however, is much harder to detect and deflect.
