oculomotor nerve [¦äk·yə·lō′mōd·ər ′nərv] (neuroscience) The third cranial nerve; a paired somatic motor nerve arising in the floor of the midbrain, which innervates all extrinsic eye muscles except the lateral rectus and superior oblique, and furnishes autonomic fibers to the ciliary and pupillary sphincter muscles within the eye.
