online storage
(redirected from third-party storage)

    0.01 sec.
online storage
(1) Storing or backing up data over the Internet. There are numerous third-party companies that provide this service, enabling users to upload photos as well as any other type of computer files. The files can typically be shared via password or made public to anyone with Internet access, and many services are free up to a maximum number of bytes of storage with monthly fees for higher capacities. See online backup and external storage.

(2) May refer to disk drives that are attached to the computer, either internally in the cabinet or externally via USB, eSATA or FireWire. In this context, the term would only be used to contrast attached media with "offline storage," such as removable disk and tape cartridges. See data library.
