The Celebrated Soubrette depicts the sad tale of a cabaret dancer past her prime and is danced to the lush strains of Le Tombeau de Liberace by Michael Daugherty, played with gusto by the London Musici and with Stephen Lade tickling the ivories in the style of the flamboyant candelabra-loving pianist. A gospel band musician, she plays bass guitar, but she's also very comfortable tickling the ivories for the church choir. When friends or his ex-wife drop by his London studio, they usually find Garry in a silk smoking jacket, tickling the ivories or fixing a drink, his latest nubile conquest stashed safely away in a spare bedroom. |
