vitamin E

 or tocopherol

Fat-soluble organic compound found principally in certain plant oils and leaves of green vegetables. Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant in body tissues and may prolong life by slowing oxidative destruction of membranes. Certain rodents require it for normal reproduction. Besides uses in foods and in nutritional research and supplements, it is used to retard rancidity in fats, especially vegetable oils.

Any of several substances having vitamin E activity that occur naturally in certain oils; α-tocopherol possesses the highest biological activity.

Some scientists hypothesize that alphatocopherol could lessen the effect of the other tocopherols.
Other key ingredients include moisture-preserving aloe vera, jojoba seed oil, and citric acid; protective antibacterial extracts of cinnamon, goldenseal, and thyme;and restorative antioxidants derived from rosemary extract and the vitamin E powerhouses tocotrienols and tocopherol.
General recommendations are: 1) 50 mg of B-6 daily in addition to a full B-complex; 2) 200-400 mg of magnesium daily; (3) 400 IU of vitamin E as d-alpha tocopherol, not dl-alpha tocopherol; and 4) 1-2 tablespoons flax seed, preferably fresh ground, or as an oil.
