Two waterborne outbreaks of toxoplasmosis have been described recently in southern Brazil. Toxoplasmosis manifesting as a parotid mass is rare; our review of the literature found only 6 previously reported cases. Abattoir waste carries high levels of microorganisms that cause disease in humans and animals, such as Salmonella and Escherichia coli bacteria, Rift Valley fever virus, and parasites that cause toxoplasmosis and trichinellosis. |
