tribologyStudy of the interactions of sliding surfaces. It includes three subjects: friction, wear, and lubrication. Many manifestations of tribology are beneficial and make modern life possible. Many others are serious nuisances, and careful design is necessary to overcome problems caused by excessive friction or wear. Friction uses up, or wastes, a substantial amount of the energy generated by humans; in addition, a great deal of productive capacity is devoted to replacing objects that have worn out. | The initial products, Victrex TU-60, TL-60, and TF-60V, expand the mechanical and tribological (wear-resistance) capabilities of Victrex PEEK. In this separate work package, the material properties and the application areas of the lubricants were determined by means of analytic chemical, physical and tribological techniques. Additionally, lateral probe motion is also being incorporated to explore tribological behavior of surfaces, including scratch resistance of coatings [23, 24] and wear resistance of metals [25]. |
