Triolet
a fixed verse form consisting of an eight-line stanza with the rhyme scheme ABaA abAB. The first line is repeated as the fourth and seventh, and the second line is repeated as the eighth. The poetic effect of the triolet and of similar forms arises from the seeming spontaneity of these repetitions. The triolet appeared in French poetry of the 15th century. It was imitated in European literatures, especially in the light verse of the 18th century, but remained a fashionable diversion. Some of the first triolets written in Russia were by N. M. Karamzin. Between 1910 and 1920, collections of triolets were published by F. Sologub and I. Rukavishnikov. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
